Salvatore Fiume - African Afternoon, painting on brocade fabric from the mid-1900s

Multi-material silk-screen painting in 41 colors on brocade. The artwork is made with the unmistakable Mediterranean style of Salvatore Fiume. The travels, which took the artist to visit all over the world, influenced his art: subjects, colors and materials lead back to exotic worlds. The use of brocade accentuates this characteristic and embellishes the whole composition. In this artwork, an odalisque lying on a bed stands out against an ivory background and other female figures can be seen in the distance. The gold and pink dress with refined blue streaks create a pleasant movement and contrast between the sheen of the fabric and the colors of the artwork. The painting is signed in the lower right corner. The serigraphy on the back bears the identification tag and embossed stamp of the Fiume foundation.
