Girl with accordion, painting by Angelo Vernazza from the 20th century
Beautiful antique Italian oil painting on canvas from the early 20th century depicting a girl with an accordion. Unsigned work, attributable to the important Italian artist Angelo Vernazza (Genoa Sampierdarena, 1869 - Genoa, 1937). The high artistic quality and the poetics of the image certify its importance. Since childhood Vernazza felt attracted to the world of art, between 1884 and 1887 he attended the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts and then, thanks to a scholarship, the Florentine school of Nicolò Barabino, of which he was one of the best pupils and one of his closest collaborators until his death in 1891. In 1893, during a trip to London and Paris, he deepened his training at the Académie Julian, which contributed to attenuate his academic rigor, bringing him closer to post-impressionism.
