5 ideas for decorating the bathroom with vintage furniture
Although it may be a small room – if compared to the living room or bedroom – the bathroom is a room that can be decorated and furnished, like its more emblazoned counterparts. Only we should do it even more intelligently, calculating spaces, materials and, of course, the styles to use.
Inserting vintage furniture responds to the trend of the moment: from furnishing accessories such as towel rails or soaps, to the actual furniture, the vintage style is perfect to create a sophisticated and charming environment. We at GrandVintage would like to give you five ideas – but there are countless of them! - to make the best use of antique furniture in the bathroom. Here they are:
1) The sink cabinet
Banned the mundane furniture of large-scale retail! By inserting a modern ceramic (or glass) washbasin on a vintage piece of furniture you get a truly delightful effect. It can be an antique icebox from the past, a work table, a low cupboard from the 70s, a piece of furniture from the end of the 19th century suitably treated to be placed in such a frame. Some advice to get the best result: first of all check the height of the cabinet, taking into account that the top of a standard sink has a height of 80/90 cm; we also suggest you to set the contrast between the warmth of the wood of the cabinet and the walls, leaving them white or partially enriching them with tiles that recall the 60s, maybe in black and white optical style.
2) Vintage mirrors
Here you can unleash your fantasy! We are "canonically" used to seeing a single bathroom mirror, usually round or rectangular, in modern style. But what if we mix vintage mirrors - strictly all different - right on top of a modern sink? The effect is full of character and out of the (allow us) banal setting of the "predefined" bathroom sets.
3) Vintage drawers
We always have a myriad of objects scattered around the bathroom. Bottles, soaps, brushes, perfumes; they can be put together - and kept in plain sight - in a series of vintage drawers, artfully reused. Unlike common containers, the drawers will transform our bathroom products into real furnishing elements, creating a corner full of style.
4) The bathroom sideboard
Yes, we're accustomed to associate the cupboard with the kitchen, the living room, the hallway. But with the right amount of style - and the right bathroom size! - it is a suitable complement to any room. Choose one with pop colors if you want attention to be focused on it, or one with warm wood, always keeping the walls white and the modern decorative accessories. It will be a valuable ally for storing towels and linen!
5) The antique briefcases
Lovely accessories that we are beginning to see among the most popular vintage proposals. The vintage briefcases are perfect to contain neatly arranged towel sets, but also perfumes, make-up and soaps. For a more "bathroom" look you can insert a mirror inside the movable side, which will make them even more useful!
These are just some of the possible suggestions to furnish a bathroom in vintage style, we are sure that with your imagination you can find many more. To inspire you we suggest you to take a look at the vintage proposals of our portal: they are all offered by the best Italian antique dealers and will arrive directly to your home!
