Antique wall or free-standing Cartel clock, Louis XV era
Antique wall or free-standing Cartel clock from the French Louis XV era with three bells, entirely veneered and surmounted by the figure of a cherub, embellished with gilded bronze frames that fall in leaf motifs over the dial, which features Roman numerals. The Cartel clock is a type of watch that was born in France at the end of the 17th century, under the reign of Louis XIV. The most acclaimed models are composed of two parts, the large clock and the base, called Coul de Lampe in jargon. We can find them in inlaid wood, in Boulle inlay, in decorative lacquer, and in green horn. However, signed on the front of the dial and on the rest of the mechanism by the master clockmaker. These clocks are large in size and were displayed in the great French salons.
