The religious subject Francisco de Jasso Azpilicueta Atondo y Aznares de Javier, commonly known by the Italianized name of Francis Xavier, was a Spanish Jesuit and missionary, proclaimed a saint in 1622 by Pope Gregory XV. He was a pioneer in the spread of Christianity in Asia. The painting is sold with a beautiful ebonized wood frame and a contemporary gilt profile, not coeval. Great price negotiable.
