Anna - Antique bronze sculpture with a woman's bust signed Gemito
Antique sculpture in burnished bronze depicting a woman's head (Nina) signed Gemito, with stamp of the Chiurazzi gallery from which it comes. The woman with a slightly sad expression is the artist's wife who portrays her with a veil on her head. Vincenzo Gemito (Naples, July 16, 1852 - Naples, March 1, 1929) was an Italian sculptor, draftsman and goldsmith. Largely self-taught, and intolerant of academic canons, Gemito was trained by drawing from the alleys of the historic center of Naples and from the sculptures of the archaeological museum. His prolific artistic activity, which led him to the pinnacle of success at the Paris Salons in 1876-77, was interrupted due to an internal intellectual crisis, due to which he segregated himself from the world for eighteen years; it resumed public life only in 1909, and then died twenty years later.
