American vintage wooden box from The Diamond Match Co.

Vintage American 1950s wooden box from The Diamond Match Co, the largest manufacturer of matches in the United States at the end of the 19th century. The box contained 144 boxes of Crescent Silent Safety matches, made with 25% less phosphorus, a necessary measure as the earlier version ignited too easily and was often the cause of accidents. From the 1960s the firm changed its name to Swift & Courtney Company.
